Cheese Straws
1 | cup all-purpose flour |
1/2 | teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper |
1/8 | teaspoon cayenne |
5 | tablespoons cold butter, cut in pieces |
1 | cup shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese |
1/4 | cup shredded Parmesan cheese |
3 | to 4 tablespoons cold water
Preheat the oven to 375˚F. In a food processor combine the flour, pepper, and cayenne. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture forms crumbs. Add the cheddar cheese, Parmesan, and water; pulse until the mixture forms a ball. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll into a 9 inch square, about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 3X1/2 inch strips, making a total of 48. Place the cheese strips on a large ungreased nonstick baking sheet and bake until golden, about 15 minutes. With a wide spatula, transfer the cheese straws to a rack to cool completely. |
